Edmonton houses the largest mall in North America – West Edmonton Mall. It’s a 500,000-square-meter (5,381,955 square feet) shopping complex with over 800 shops.

Furthermore, the mall holds an array of notable records, including the largest indoor amusement park in Canada and the world’s largest wave pool and indoor lake.

If you decide to explore this expansive mall, here’s our guide to shopping in West Edmonton Mall.

What to Do at West Edmonton Mall

Drop by the World Waterpark

World Water Park features the largest indoor wave pool in the world. This tropical oasis has 17 waterslides, hot tubs, and other play features that the whole family can enjoy.

Youngsters can play all they want at the splash park and beginner slides such as Caribbean Cove, Cruiser, and Hurricane. Even if they stay on the water for hours, they won’t get too chilly because the average temperature in the area is a balmy 31°C.

Those who want a bit of a challenge can try the intermediate slides, including Blue Bullet, Corkscrew, and Raging Rapids. Be ready because these slides come with strong waves and big splashes.

There’s more! If you think you can conquer the extreme slides, try the Cyclone, Tsunami, and Sky Screamer Extreme.

Play at Galaxyland

With over 27 rides and various play areas, Galaxyland is recognized as the largest indoor amusement park in Canada.

Some of the featured rides that kids can enjoy are the Carousel, Space Bump, Kiddie Convoy, and Galaxyland Raceway. For thrill-seekers, you can try the Galaxy Orbiter, Swing of the Century, Mindbender, Space Shot, and Sonic Twister.

Just note that the availability of the rides is subject to change, so check the ride maintenance schedule page before buying a ticket.

If you’re planning a grand birthday celebration or a surprise party, you can also book a party room or the entire attraction.

Get a hole-in-one at Adventure Golf

Professor Wem’s Adventure Golf is an 18-hole miniature golf course that kids and kids-at-heart can enjoy. The notable features of this mini putt course are its cartoon caricatures and vibrant golf features.

Getting a hole-in-one is a great way to end your night. You can play a competitive game with your kids or friends before or after you have dinner at the nearby restaurants.

Since it’s open late, the mini golf course is also a popular pick for date nights and get-togethers.

Just remember that the final tee time is 30 minutes before the closing time, so it’s best to come earlier if you aim to finish the course.

Discover marine life at Sea Life Caverns

Sea Life Caverns is an underground aquarium that is part of the Marine Life attraction of West Edmonton Mall.

Once you get to the venue, you’ll enter a darkened cave-like structure. It leads to tanks and terrariums filled with over 100 species of fish, reptiles, sea turtles, amphibians, penguins, and other marine life.

If you wish to explore Marine Life more, you can also try the Sea Lion’s Rock and Sea Lions Encounter. For an additional charge, you can train, touch, and swim with the friendly sea lions.

Go bowling and enjoy arcade games at Ed’s Rec Room

Ed’s Rec Room is a local favorite at West Edmonton Mall. It features recreational activities such as bowling, escape rooms, and billiards.

It’s an excellent place to hang out with friends, family, and colleagues because you can participate in friendly competitions.

For example, if you’re coming with your whole crew, you can reserve two or more bowling lanes so you can all play side-by-side.

Moreover, if you visit at night, you can also enjoy bowling with a twist – glow bowling. With this, you can play while the black lights are on and the music is blasting.

Just note that same-day reservations are not accepted, and walk-ins are still based on availability. For this reason, booking the tickets in advance is best to secure a spot.
