Fortunately, Edmonton has some impressive tennis courts that make playing incredibly rewarding and—most importantly—don’t take the fun out of the game.
If you’re eager to hit the courts but don’t know where to go, we’ve put together a list of the best public and beginner-friendly tennis courts in Edmonton.
How much does it cost to rent a tennis court in Edmonton?
Renting a tennis court in Edmonton costs $10 to $40 per hour, depending on the facility. Outdoor courts start at $10, while indoor courts range from $33 to $40. Prices may vary based on membership and booking time.

What sets Saville Community Sports Centre apart is its focus on player development. They offer private tennis lessons with NCCP(National Coaching Certification Program)-certified coaches to its members, making it a great place for skill improvement.
We really love that the center has a lot of tennis courts, allowing it to accommodate more players. It has six outdoor courts,along with eight championship-caliber indoor tennis courts.
Another highlight is the on-site pro shop owned by Olympic gold medalist Kevin Martin. It’s stocked with high-quality tennis equipment, and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable. I once needed help selecting a new racquet, and they explained each type they had to help me.
One drawback, though, is the parking availability. It’s a small inconvenience, but it can be annoying if you’re carrying sports gear or running late for a game.

Tennis players may practice all year round at Kinsmen Sports Centre, thanks to its indoor and outdoor facilities.
The courts were in excellent condition when we visited, offering both recreational and competitive players a satisfying experience.
In addition to well-maintained courts, the center offers instruction in collaboration with organizations and licensed tennis pros. Several players we spoke with praised the quality of coaching, whether in private lessons or group programs.
What we love about their features is the availability of public Wi-Fi and child-minding services. Knowing that their children are in a monitored environment allows parents to concentrate on their own activities.
That said, the facility tends to get crowded on weekend mornings and weekday evenings. During our visit, we found it challenging to access some amenities.

Established in 1926, Garneau Tennis Club & Beach Volleyball has been a fixture in Edmonton’s sports community for decades.
What makes Garneau stand out is its seven Nova-Pro clay courts, which are playable year-round in any climate. This distinct playing experience sets it apart from other local facilities.
Members we talked to appreciate the club’s social atmosphere. They host a weekly tennis social event where players can play friendly matches and meet new partners.
Additionally, they offer free tennis lessons during the summer, which is very beneficial to beginner members. These workshops allow them to improve their abilities without incurring any further expenses.
One drawback, however, is its location next to a busy road. It might be a personal thing, but I sometimes found the sound of passing traffic distracting during matches.

Great clay court experience
“I visited the tennis courts at this site. The facility is very nice and there are 7 courts. Note that these are clay courts so prepare for a bit of dust and for your balls and shoes to get a bit dusty. I really enjoyed this tennis club. The members and staff seemed very friendly. I really liked playing on the clay. They are also Covid conscious here which is a very good thing.”

The best thing about Borden Park’s outdoor tennis court is it’s open to the public. This makes it a convenient choice for casual and regulars.
According to several players we spoke with, the court is well-maintained and suitable for practice or recreational matches. I noticed the same during my visit, as the surface was in great condition and provided a smooth playing experience.
There are picnic benches around the court, offering a perfect spot for onlookers to sit and watch.
Players also won’t have to worry about parking since there’s an on-site lot, making it more convenient to bring their gear.
One downside, though, is the absence of wind barriers. This can make matches challenging on windy days.
I also found playing in the summer heat to be quite uncomfortable due to the court’s lack of shade. Without any cover, the sun felt unbearable, making longer matches particularly difficult.

Coronation Park has six green asphalt tennis courts, with four available for booking and two reserved for drop-in play. This setup allows both scheduled matches and spontaneous games.
Players we spoke to noted that the courts are well-maintained. The surface is in good condition, and the court lines are clearly marked.
The park’s welcoming environment accommodates athletes of all skill levels. A lot of casual players mentioned feeling comfortable playing here.
I’ve noticed that the court’s availability can be a challenge, especially on weekends and at night. Drop-in courts fill up fast—I once showed up without a reservation and had to wait quite a while before I could get a spot.
