We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Does your team need to unwind, boost their morale or just enjoy some fun activities together? Fret not, we’ve got a list today that will help you with all of that!

We went all around the city searching for the best team building activities in Edmonton and have come up with this article today. Our choices were based on customer reviews, level of collaborative experience, and the company’s reputations.

Let’s go ahead and take a look at the top team building activities in Edmonton but we’ll need to talk about how much this is all going to cost first.

How Much Do Team Building Activities Cost in Edmonton?

The total cost of a team building activity will depend on two things: the type of activity and the number of people involved.

Smaller companies can often get by with very informal team building activities that can modestly cost anywhere from $10-$50 per person. However, for those organizing a formal event, the costs can skyrocket, especially if food and lodging is included.

For medium business or large companies, we’ve compiled the average estimated price of a team building event based on the number of participants in the table below.

Number of ParticipantsPrice range – Half dayPrice range – Full day
10$3,600-$7,000$4,300-$8,300
20$4,200-$8,000$5,200-$9,400
50$6,800-$11,600$8,600-$13,600
100$9,000-$15,600$10,600 – $18,000

Email: [email protected]
OPERATING HOURSMonday: Closed
Tuesday to Thursday: 12:00pm – 9:00pm
Friday: 12:00 pm – 11:15pm
Saturday to Sunday: 10:00am – 11:45pm

Escape Hour places you inside of a room for sixty minutes to solve riddles, puzzles and to find hidden items. There are different themes and styles of play involved that ultimately revolve around finding a way to get out of the closed space.

These mystery-puzzle rooms are popular in the corporate world because it fosters teamwork and is one of the best ways to bond a team together. These fun and challenging escape rooms require that members work together to get out before time runs out.

We like this activity because it’s not so much a physical endeavor as it is about exercising a person’s mental aptitudes, problem-solving skills, and ability to handle stress under pressure. It’s a great way to have fun and train for real-world situations that may happen in the workplace as well.

Escape Hour can accommodate up to 70 people for any corporate event simultaneously, however, only 6-12 people can fit in a single room. With that said, this team building activity is better suited for small or medium-sized companies only.

Regardless, you’ll have five different rooms to choose from, namely Five Lives, Bank Heist, Matrix Theme, 5 Elements, and Senator’s Battle. To make things even more interesting, you can even suggest a theme for your team’s escape room to Escape Hour and they can craft custom puzzles for your event!

If you’re wondering about safety, don’t worry—you’ll have a dedicated GameMaster watching out over you during the entire game, and doors aren’t padlocked. But if any of your team members are claustrophobic, this may not be the activity for them.

Nevertheless, there’s no better way to have a team bond than to put them in a situation that forces them to work together. This is why Escape Hour earns a top spot on our list of the top team building activities.

Pros

  • Promotes teamwork and problem solving skills
  • Five themed rooms to choose from
  • Can create a custom-themed room for corporate events

Cons

  • Not suitable for those who don’t like enclosed spaces
  • Better for small businesses with few employees

Customer Reviews

Tracy Lazaroff had never been to an escape room before and she appreciated the help the Gamemaster at Escape Hour offered when they couldn’t figure it out. She writes:

“I really enjoyed the experience at Escape hour. Our game master, Kenton Clark was really helpful when we were stuck. He was kind and made the experience fun. I really appreciated the way that he helped us through. We were pretty new to escape rooms so we needed a lot of help. It is a great way to celebrate a birthday or other event, or just as a fun date night.”

Erdogan Gorth, another customer, was already familiar with escape rooms but appreciated the fresh take that Escape Hour had on the puzzles. He shares:

“My group and I had a wonderful experience at Escape Hour. The room was very unique and provided a different style of how a regular escape room works. Kenton and Cory were very helpful throughout the process and generous.”

Laser City is one of Edmonton’s newest laser tag facilities and is a great way for your team to group up and engage in some friendly and fun competition.

You can even bring in outside food for your event or you can have Laser City assist with organizing catering to make sure your event is a success. Take note that alcohol is not allowed inside to keep things family-friendly.

Each event you schedule is generally around 2-3 hours long and may extend if you’re having your meals at the facility. At the end of the event, each person will receive 1 free game voucher for a laser tag game in the future.

Pros

  • Outside food is allowed and catering can be accomodated

Get Cooking was established in 2009 by Kathryn Joel, a graduate of London’s Le Cordon Bleu and Leiths School of Food and Wine. The culinary school is located in downtown Edmonton, offering both virtual and traditional classes, catering, and corporate events.

Their idea to offer cooking as a team building experience stems from the concept that preparing a meal together is one of the best ways to bond. What’s more, you also get to enjoy a tasty meal afterward!

For your team building event, a culinary team at Get Cooking will collaborate with you to choose a menu that best suits your team’s interests, preferences, and budget. Each class will have two chef instructors who will teach team members how to create in-house recipes from scratch.

No skill level is needed and the informal setting allows your team to relax and be themselves without any pressure. The chef instructors will also have wine pairings available, ensuring that your event will be a great success!

A minimum of 10-12 participants needed for each class but Get Cooking is open to accepting smaller groups with advanced notice. Each class will cost $115, even if you have less than the minimum number of participants they require.

We like Get Cooking because of the range of cuisines that they teach, offering everything from Shrimp Empanadas, Seafood Paella, and Southern Fried Chicken, just to name a few. They also have vegan and vegetarian options available, which is perfect for those who have dietary restrictions.

Get Cooking earns a spot on our list of the best team building activities because it’s a laid-back and informal atmosphere for teams to bond over good food and wine.

  • Offers international cuisine with vegan and vegetarian options
  • No cooking skills necessary to join
  • Offer team building classes for up to 30
  • Team building events are customized

Holly Gunderman, the General Manager of Indigospirit scheduled an event with Get Cooking with great success. This is her story:

“Thank you so much for creating such a fantastic event for us! Everyone had such a great time, even our non-cooks have been talking about recreating the recipes. Your whole team was amazing and created such a welcoming and fun learning environment. It made bringing a group of 40, 15 of those new to our group, together for our Manager connection time this week so easy. Creating the dishes together created some new friendships and brought our 3 regions together. We walked into our Tuesday meetings like we had known each other forever. “

Teryn W. of the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association also had a team building event with Get Cooking. She writes:

“The team at Get Cooking is so great to work with to set up a virtual cooking event! They are very quick to respond to emails and work with you to set your private event up. Kathryn was able to give great suggestions for what to make during our event. Everyone who attended had a great time and feels confident making the meal on their own now! I will definitely book another event with Get Cooking!”

OPERATING HOURSWednesday to Sunday: 11:00am – 5:00pm

Operation City Quest is a scavenger hunt that takes place in the heart of the city wherein participants use an app to look for items and fulfill specific objectives. It involves walking, teamwork, and an aptitude for solving puzzles.

Each scavenger hunt takes about two hours to complete and covers a distance of approximately two miles. Even though there’s moderate physical activity and walking involved, it’s suitable for most ages as long as the weather permits it.

After you’ve purchased your ticket, you’ll need to choose the date of your game. By choosing the Team Building Specialty version of the game, you’ll get a special hunt that’s different from the ones that the general public are privy to.

Operation City Quest can handle groups of up to 2,000 players for your event, where you’ll have a private leaderboard and can also put your company’s logo within the app. You’ll get live photo updates as players complete challenges and you can also create as many teams as you want.

Participants will be asked to search for items, points of interest, and landmarks around the city with each objective found equating to a point. Different challenges will arise during the game that need to be completed to progress throughout the different levels.

Operation City Quest has no time limit to complete all the objectives since there are hundreds of items that can be found, so you can use up the whole day if you want to. This can work to your advantage if the weather isn’t cooperative, especially since it’s an outdoor activity.

While there won’t be a physical host present to facilitate the game, a member of the staff is available via chat on the app to help you out. Participants are free to play the game on the schedule of their choosing, but customer support is only available during their operating hours.

Pros

  • Can complete the game at your own pace
  • Up to 2,000 people can play at the same time

Cons

  • Customer support only available during operating hours
  • Outdoor activity that may be affected by weather

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Our next activity was crafted by High 5 Teambuilding, a company that’s been specializing in creating parties and team activities in Edmonton since 2001. They offer a wide array of choices which include virtual options and even a full casino at your venue.

Mini Golf Mania is one of their most popular choices since it engages teams to work and think together. This highly collaborative experience needs at least 12 participants but can work for hundreds of members as well.

The purpose of the challenge is to create a golf hole with assorted food items provided by High 5. Points are awarded to the teams for the complexity and creativity of their designs.

While building the golf hole, participants will be given the opportunity to win additional materials to give their build an advantage. They’ll compete in a series of challenges with other teams which fosters friendly competition amongst each other.

After the holes are completed, some members of the team will be appointed to actually play the course, while others will coach and assist. Once the course is completed, the food items the holes are made of are collected and donated to a local food bank!

The only downside to this game is that it requires a large space of at least 100 square feet per team of six people. The more participants there are, the more space is needed, so this will only work if your venue can accommodate the space requirements.

Nevertheless, this fun and interactive game can last from 2 hours up to the whole day, depending on the number of people participating. However, more people involved means more food items accumulated for donation as well.

High 5 Teambuilding also offers several other activities to choose from which include game shows, races, and scavenger hunts, just to name a few. You can even hire them to organize your entire team building event with as many activities as you prefer!

Pros

  • Facilitated by a professional team building event organizer
  • Food items used are rounded up for donation to a food bank afterwards

Cons

  • Requires at least 100 square feet for a team of six people
  • In-person services are only available in Alberta

Customer Reviews

“Oh my gosh so much fun! Everyone got right into the spirit of things and had a really good time, Thanks so much, you guys never disappoint. You are our “go to” entertainers.”

“I wanted to pass on a great big THANK YOU to you and your team. Yesterday’s event was a huge success and it wouldn’t have been without you guys.  You & your team made the process very painless and the event ran so smoothly! Thanks again!”

This next activity is also organized by a company that specializes in team building and corporate events. Team Higher Ground was founded in 1995 to provide engaging methods for corporate training but eventually focused its services on team building.

Although Team Higher Ground offers a wide array of different activities, Movie Studio is one of their more interesting offerings that promotes teamwork and creativity. Since it can be an indoor activity, it can take place any time of the year, but a minimum of 30 people is required.

In this activity, participants are grouped into “Studios” and are tasked with crafting a three to five-minute movie. Each team will undergo a brief training session on the basics, at which point they will select a theme and genre that they will base their film on.

They’ll go through the motions of professional film-making including creating a storyboard, writing a script, and shooting the film itself. Teams will have a time limit on how long they can shoot, at which point they’ll submit their footage to one of Team Higher Ground’s professional editors.

After all the teams complete their movies, participants will gather in an elaborate “awards” ceremony wherein they’ll view all the movies together and enjoy the rest of their day. Special awards may even be given if you choose to do so.

This event is usually set to run for around 2-3 hours, although you may request Team Higher Ground to craft a shorter program. Since this activity can handle up to 30,000 people, it can also take some time to view all the videos, which may not be suitable if you have a full program.

If some of your teammates are camera shy, this may not be the activity for them. However, it’s a great way for teams to think and act fast while working together to complete a task under time pressure.

Pros

  • Can be facilitated anytime of the year
  • Can accommodate up to 30,000 participants

Cons

  • Minimum of 30 participants needed
  • May not be suitable for large group events
