Offering 100% fiber-optic connections, their flagship Internet-only plans are aptly named Fast, Faster, and Fastest. They also offer other options, and if you’re not sure which one is right for you, you can always take their online quiz.

Their Fast plan has a download and upload speed of 75 Mbps, which can accommodate up to 10 devices. It’s priced at $85 per month for the first two years, which then goes at full price to $100 afterward.

In our opinion, however, the PureFibre Internet 300/300 seems like a better deal for the average Internet-savvy household. At only $95 for the first two years and $120 monthly afterward, you get almost four times the bandwidth at 300Mbps for not much of a price difference.

The Faster and Fastest plans are better for an office setting and are only worth it if more than 10 devices are going to be used simultaneously. Other reasons to get these are if somebody in your home is a hardcore gamer or one of you is a live streamer.

Now, if there are areas in your home that are out of reach from your Wi-Fi, Telus offers hardware boosters that can extend the range. You can get these on financed payments for only $5 a month, which can be added to your monthly bill for convenient payment.

So, once you’ve chosen your plan, you can expect up to 2 weeks to get an installation appointment, although sometimes you can get lucky and score one in a few days. For Internet-only, installation can take 1 to 2 hours and may take longer if you purchase one of their TV bundles.

Speaking of which, their Optik TV and Pik Tv packages can offer you multiple channels to stream and can even include a bundled device. Some of their deals include loaning you a 55-inch TV, Apple TV, or an iPad, which some may find appealing.

Now, if you decide Telus isn’t for you within their 30-day satisfaction guarantee, they’ll waive all fees. However, you’ll need to return any of their freebie products within 21 days.

If you cancel any time after the guarantee expires, you’ll be charged $15 for the remaining months in your contract. To make this clearer, if you have three months left until your contract ends, you’ll be charged $15 x 3 months – this equates to a total cancellation fee of $45.

So, unless you cancel within the first month of your contract we would suggest just waiting until it ends.

Nevertheless, we think that most users will be quite satisfied with their Internet connection because of its reliability and speeds. If you’re coming from a cable or DSL connection and find good Internet speeds crucial, Telus plans are well worth the expense.

Their Fibre+ 25, 75, and 150 deals are tailored for students to help them continue with their studies. Students can even receive additional discounts if they sign up using their post-secondary school email address.

The Fibre+25 and 75 have data caps, though: 250GB and 500GB respectively. So, if you’re heavy into streaming services or gaming, these are not the plans for you.

Shaw does have plans that have unlimited usage, starting at their 150mbps plans upwards. Their most premium offering is the Fibre+ Gig 1.5, which gives users up to 1.5Gbps of download speeds at $165/month, although this is probably best suited for businesses.

In our opinion, the Fibre+ 150 plan offers the best deal for most people, offering unlimited Internet usage at $90 a month. You’ll have up to 100mbps download speeds and 15mbps upload speeds with a 12-month price guarantee.

To boost their customer offerings even further, Shaw’s Our Home app lets you regulate Internet usage in your home, which is especially useful if you have children. You can pause Wi-Fi, set approved Internet schedules, and even activate safe browsing while your kids are online.

Confusingly though, they offer a separate app called My Shaw, which is just for managing your account and paying your bills. We think it would have been better to have bundled the two apps into one to avoid redundancy.

If you’re looking for a mobile LTE plan for your mobile, you can make the switch to Shaw as well, offering up to 25GB of LTE for only $25 a month. With each phone plan, you’ll get unlimited calls, texts, and can even automatically connect to any one of Shaw’s Wi-Fi hotspots around the country.

The lowest plan is Cable Internet 25, which offers unlimited usage up to 25Mbps download speeds and 2.5Mbps upload speeds. Priced at $34.95 per month, this plan is more than enough for a family of 3 to 4 people who do average streaming, web browsing, and casual gaming.

The top plan on offer is Cable Internet 1000, priced significantly more at $94.95 monthly. However, you get a significant upgrade in speeds with 1000Mbps downloads and 25Mbps uploads, which makes it more than worth the extra money.

Do take note that the downside of cable connections is that speeds can fluctuate because you’re sharing bandwidth with other people on the same “cable” line. So, during peak hours, you can expect some slow down in speeds.

With that in mind, our opinion is that Cable Internet 75Mbps or 150Mbps hits the sweet spot as they offer enough cushion in their maximum speeds. This will come in handy for video conferencing, uploading large files, and playing games even during peak hours.

AEBC also offers fiber Internet plans, but there’s no guarantee that your particular area will be connected, so be prepared to wait or be disappointed. Regardless, you can still check out their plans that start at 25Mbps for $80 a month and go up to 1,000Mbps at $148 per month.

Take note that Fibre services need an additional $100 for activation and installation. A $100 modem deposit is also required, which will eventually be refunded when you terminate your contract with them.

While AEBC may not offer mobile or sim plans, they do have VoIP Phone, which lets you call long distances at affordable rates. The starter cable plan has speeds of up to 5Mbps and costs $38.95 per month. It disappointingly has only a 0.5 Mbps upload speed and a data cap at 400GB… which in our opinion doesn’t make it any better than using LTE on your mobile phone.

The most expensive cable plan on the other hand is the Cable 750 Unlimited, which costs $119.95 per month. This plan offers something a whole lot better with up to 750Mbps download speeds and up to 20 Mbps upload speed.

However, among their cable plans, our opinion is that Cable 150 Unlimited is their best offer. It is the second most expensive but gives you 150mbps download speeds and 10mbps upload speeds.

Just like some of its competitors, you can opt to purchase or rent the modems and routers from Teksavvy. What makes them different is that they offer second-hand “open box” hardware, that is cheaper than purchasing a brand new one but exhibits the same quality.

Although we’re a little disappointed that Teksavvy isn’t ready to lay down its fiber optic Internet in Edmonton just yet, their Cable Unlimited Plans offer quite a good deal. With large bandwidth and reliable connections, we think they’re still among the best Internet providers in Edmonton.
